Backup and data protection solutions specialist Intronis, which works through the IT channel, announced complete Bare Metal Restore (BMR) is now available as part of the company’s ECHOplatform and flat-fee unlimited cloud and unlimited local storage pricing plan.
Available at no additional charge to Intronis channel partners, the new BMR functionality offers complete physical-to-physical (P2P) bare metal recovery and physical-to-virtual (P2V) BMR recovery options.
The capability allows channel players to mount recovered images as a drive to the same or different machine for file-level restore and restore protected images as a virtual machine (VM) by leveraging restored virtual hard disks.
“Downtime or data loss puts businesses at operational, compliance, and financial risk. In the event of a server crash or malware attack, SMBs want their data restored and they want it fast, with as little effect on daily operations or productivity as possible,” Chuck DeLouis, vice president of product management at Intronis, told eWeek. “Automated BMR fills this void by making the restoration process faster and simpler for the end user.”
Users can also recover back to the original system in the event of data corruption or hard drive failure and restore physical images as virtual hard disks (VHD) to a local or network location.
The update also allows users to recover to a replacement machine to address total system failure or recover to a select point-in-time to resolve for data corruption or viruses.
According to Contingency Planning and Strategic Research Corporation, 96 percent of all business workstations are not being backed up.
That vulnerability is highlighted by a report from the National Archives & Records Administration in Washington, which found that 60 percent of companies that lose their data will shut down within six months of the disaster and 93 percent of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster.
The new BMR functionality comes on the heels of several significant Intronis announcements including the new, all-in-one Intronis ECHOplatform, a comprehensive cloud backup and data recovery solution—supporting a variety of in-demand services, plug-ins, and extensions such as physical imaging, VMware and Hyper-V, as well as SQL and Exchange backup.
The company also recently unveiled a pricing model called the Intronis U2 Plan, which is designed to simplify pricing for channel partners by offering unlimited cloud and unlimited local storage at a fixed monthly cost.
“It’s no secret that the amount of available data is continuing to expand. Along with this influx of data comes the added responsibility for the business owner to ensure that all data is secured and protected,” DeLouis said. “Neglecting to secure certain sets of data may open the door for potential compromise down the road.”
He said while it’s a positive sign that businesses are making use of all this new data to make better decisions, if they don’t keep a close eye on where this data is stored, managed and protected, risks can arise.
