Security gear maker SonicWall said Feb. 8 that it has acquired e-mail security vendor MailFrontier for $31 million in cash.
The deal will add MailFrontiers messaging security software and hardware to SonicWalls portfolio of security hardware and software products for small and midsize businesses, according to a statement from SonicWall.
MailFrontier sells e-mail security gateway software and hardware that checks e-mail traffic for viruses, phishing attacks, spam content and other threats. The technology can also be used to check e-mail communication for sensitive information that is being mailed out of a company.
SonicWall will offer MailFrontiers e-mail security products through its network of solution providers. The company will also look for ways to combine it with the companys existing portfolio of products, including Firewall and SSL-VPN appliances, backup and recovery products, and gateway anti-virus and anti-spam products, to build SonicWalls profile as an enterprise secure content management vendor, according to the company.
