Aluria Softwares Spyware Eliminator 3.0, which shipped earlier this month, is an easy-to-use tool for keeping PCs free of spyware.
Eliminator employs a Mac-like UI that clearly shows the severity of the spyware found on the system and offers scanning wizards to help users quickly purge their systems. However, unlike Lavasofts Ad-Aware, Eliminator does not automatically check for spyware definition updates when launched. I had to manually update the application from the drop-down menus.
In addition, once the definition update is completed, Eliminator opens a Web page on Alurias Web site with links to special offers, which can be annoying.
One section of the interface has check boxes that allow users to quickly pick scanning or cleaning options. In addition, I could configure exclusion lists, rollback items and view logs.
A built-in scan scheduler allowed me to opt for daily or weekly scanning, and I could easily pick the type of scans to perform using the check boxes.
Eliminator is available now for $29.99. Aluria also offers a 15-day evaluation download at its Web site.
