Vozin Communications, which makes Talqer, seems to be the perfect future Google acquisition target.
The free Talqer download, now available, lets someone use the Google Talk instant messenging app to make and receive calls from traditional cell or land-line phones. In May, Vozin is going to introduce a $12-a-month unlimited North American calling plan.
Google clearly could make instant use of Talqer. Instant messaging features from Yahoo, Microsoft’s MSN and others already have off-Net calling. Google Talk doesn’t come with that standard.
Vozin believes it can be very competitive. The company says its phone calling rates are lower than those of Skype, the largest of the world’s Net phone operators and a division of eBay.
That’s a lot of potential business Google’s leaving on the table for Vozin. And Google doesn’t like to be in that particular kind of situation.
