A day without a new blog entry is a failure to live up to the promise. This medium demands the feel of a conversation, not of a chess game by snail mail — and the WiFi laptop, combined with the public hot spot, is therefore the defining tool of the 21st-century journalist to at least the same degree that the Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 held that role in the 1980s.
I can’t tell you how many times a day I think, “I should blog on that,” but trying to do more than just give you a pointer to a story — trying to provide some relevant links to the context that made me think the story was interesting — takes more time than you might think. The other thing, of course, is that we’re also producing content for print and other channels, which means we’re thinking on the immediate time frame of the blog concurrently with trying to address a more labored production process that has deadlines today for product a week away. It’s interesting.
Anyway, I know that three entries in one day aren’t as good as one a day for three days, but I feel a window opening up for some catch-up later today. Watch this space.
