TORONTO (AP)—The operator of an automated marketplace for telecommunications services is paying Nortel Networks Corp. an undisclosed amount to settle a technology-infringement suit.
The settlement with Arbinet-thexchange Inc. was announced Tuesday by Nortel.
The lawsuit, filed in July in Alexandria, Va., claimed that Arbinet violated copyrights and misappropriated trade secrets by using Nortel software without authorization.
Brampton, Ontario-based Nortel also claimed that Arbinet exceeded the permitted usage level under its license and failed to meet contractual obligations for the purchase of switching systems.
New Jersey-based Arbinet was founded in 1996 as Smartgroup Holdings Inc. before changing its name to Arbinet-thExchange in 2002.
Members of the Arbinet, consisting primarily of communications service providers, anonymously buy and sell voice calls and Internet capacity based on route quality and price through a centralized marketplace.
