1Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Smartphones Get Points for Style, Performance
by Todd R. Weiss
2Here They Are: Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge
The stylish Galaxy S6 Edge (left) and the standard Galaxy S6 both are powered by Samsung’s latest 14nm technology, 64- bit, eight-core Exynos 7 processors, which use less power while providing higher performance. Android 5.0 Lollipop is running on both devices.
3Galaxy S6 Standard: Good Performance, No Edge Displays
Both the Galaxy S6 (shown here) and Galaxy S6 Edge versions include new LPDDR4 flash RAM and nonexpandable UFS 2.0 flash storage that is available in three capacities—32GB, 64GB and 128GB—to meet the storage needs of their users.
4Galaxy S6 Edge Gets a Two-Sided Wrap-Around Screen
The flashier and more sculptured Galaxy S6 Edge (shown here) features a bright display that wraps around both sides of the handset. Both the S6 and the S6 Edge use a 5.1-inch, quad HD Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both the front and rear covers.
5S6 Galaxies Move to Nonremovable Batteries
Unlike previous Galaxy S series models, the new S6 Edge (shown here) and S6 include integrated batteries. The S6 includes a 2,550mAh nonremovable battery, while the S6 Edge includes a 2,600mAh nonremovable battery.
6Improved Audio and Speakers
Both S6 models (S6 Edge shown here with wrap-around screen) include improved audio quality over the earlier S5 models, with a bottom-mounted speaker that provides sound that’s up to 1.5 times louder than the previous-generation audio system.
7Four Color Choices for Each Model
The S6 (shown here) is available in Sapphire Black, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz or White Pearl, while the S6 Edge will be sold in Sapphire Black, White Pearl, Gold Platinum or Green Emerald.
8Core Components: A Look Inside
Integrated in each S6 and S6 Edge smartphone is an all-new chassis (center) made from aircraft-grade aluminum and a Gorilla Glass 4 front (left) and rear cover for strength. Wireless charging and fast charging capabilities are also built in.
9Here’s How the S6 Galaxies Show Their Beautiful Colors
Samsung uses a unique assembly process to give each S6 its color. The faceplate and backplate colors are actually created through the use of thin colored foil-like materials (shown here in rolls) that are cut and positioned on the backside of the glass on the front and rear of each phone.
10Inside Look at the S6 Cameras
The new S6 models offer a 16-megapixel rear camera (on right) with Smart Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 1.9 f lens and automatic real-time High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing for improved low-light picture quality. Also included is an improved 5MP front camera for better selfies.
11Lots of Case Accessories and Colors Available
With its multiple color options for each S6 model, Samsung is also releasing plenty of soft feel and other case options so that users can style their S6 or S6 Edge smartphone with just about any color combination that they are seeking.
