BlackBerry Handpicks 10 Top Apps It Wants Users to Check Out

With this app, users can track key finance APIs and access analyst and media coverage anytime, from anywhere. It connects to SAP’s ERP system and enables fast analysis of competitors and target companies, as well as internal and external financial news content.

Mallick says there was an uproar when MLB pulled back its support for legacy BlackBerry devices, but no one made a peep when MLB announced it had created “the best app ever” for BB10. This app provides fans with audio and video broadcasts, team updates and “up-to-the-moment action.”

When it comes to covering sports, from the NHL to NFL, Mallick says BlackBerry 10 has “really compelling offerings.” That includes this PGA Tour app that lets fans follow the pros through videos, highlights, Twitter feeds and more.

This popular news app has embedded video streaming and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) integration. It’s also a Built for BlackBerry-certified app.

Kermit the Frog could have used this one. SoundHound can name the song you’re listening to in as quickly as four seconds. You can even hum a tune, and SoundHound will offer up the title.

BlackBerry World doesn’t have a Netflix app, but it does have Crackle, an app that frees access to thousands of films and television shows. “And you can save your $8 a month,” said Mallick. “It’s free.”

Again, while a Netflix app isn’t available, PlayOn is. Anyone who has a PlayOn subscription connected to her computer can use the BB10 app to view content—from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video On Demand, ESPN, The Food Network, MTV, NBC, SpikeTV and all other supported PlayOn channels—on a BB10 device.

This Built for BlackBerry-certified app “takes full advantage of the BlackBerry 10 entertainment experience,” says BlackBerry, “from stunning graphics to fast access to maxim’s latest HD videos.”

BlackBerry 10 doesn’t yet have a Pandora app but it does have IHeartRadio, an app that offers free access to more than 800 live radio stations.

The Discovery Channel app for BB10 offers thousands of clips from shows including MythBusters, Deadliest Catch and Gold Rush, as well as full episodes and schedule information.
