WebEx Communications Corp. today released the first fruits of its recent $45 million acquisition of hosted collaboration services provider Intranets.com.
Intranets.com, which like WebEx provided software-as-a-service, specialized in selling its collaboration tools into businesses with less than 100 employees.
WebEx is hoping the addition of Intranets.com, and its 300,000 subscribers, will help propel WebEx into the highly coveted SMB market.
WebEx announced Tuesday it had combined its Web conferencing service with Intranets.coms Web-based tools for sharing documents, calendars and databases into a new collaboration offering for SMBs, called WebOffice WorkGroup, which the company says will compete with Microsoft Corp.s SharePoint Server Portal.
WebOffice Workgroup pricing starts at $59.95 for five users. Users can add Web meetings for an additional $49.95 per month per host, with a five host minimum. Additional Web meeting services are available for extra cost.
WebEx says it plans to deeply integrate e-mail and instant messaging into future versions of WebOffice.
The company also launched today a trimmed-down version of WebOffice Workgroup tailored for individuals, called WebOffice Personal, which includes web meetings for up to five attendees, as well as tools for managing documents, tasks, calendar and contacts. Pricing starts at $49.95 per month.
WebEx, which acquired Intranets.com in August, has folded the company into WebEx under a new operating division called WebExOne that will focus on the SMB and individual professional market. Former Intranets.com CEO Rick Faulk is now president of WebExOne.
WebEx also today introduced two new services tailored for professional individuals: MeetMeNow, a quick-start Web meeting service that supports up to 10 attendees and integrates with desktop applications and consumer IM services; and PCNow, a Web-based remote access tool.
MeetMeNow costs $49 per month, or $39 per month for a one-year contract. PCNow costs $14.95 per month per PC, and WebEx is also offering an introductory rate of $9.95 per month per PC.
