To offer a carrier grade environment for the testing of its equipment, Cisco Systems Inc. has set up a lab in its Singapore headquarters to evaluate around $40 million of networking equipment.
Dubbed the Networked Solutions Integration Test Engineering (NSITE) lab, it covers an area of 10,000 square feet and will focus on testing of enterprise broadband solutions, service provider migration to soft switches and of recent interest Ð IPV6 addressing, officials said.
According to Uwe Fisher, the manager for NSITE in Asia Pacific, the lab will be the last point of equipment testing before delivery to customers.
The NSITE will also serve Japan as it is the only lab of its kind in Asia Pacific. Part of what it does includes testing whether code written for Cisco routers work with other boxes in a carrier environment.
The tests also require stable power. American Power Conversion provides 40 KW of power into the lab through its Unlimited Power Supply system, officials said. Lab testers say this is critical as most tests cannot be interrupted.
