Web services technology provider Cape Clear Software Inc. on Monday announced that the next version of its Web Services platform will feature support for Microsoft Corp.s Visual Studio.Net development tools suite.
Cape Clears CapeConnect 3.5 includes native interoperability with the latest release candidate for Microsoft .Net framework and Microsoft VisualStudio.Net, the Campbell, Calif., company said.
Cape Clear officials said CapeConnect 3.5 is available now as a beta release, with a commercial release slated for the end of this month.
The new version also delivers several enhancements, including support for databases over SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), enhanced UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) functionality, and additional support for complex legacy applications.
The company describes CapeConnect as a Web services platform that enables developers to automatically expose existing Java, Enterprise JavaBeans, .Net, and CORBA components as Web services without writing code.
“The J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) versus .Net quandary is analogous to a comparison of commodity suppliers,” Annrai OToole, CEO of Cape Clear, said in a prepared statement. “It is time for software vendors to realize that diversity is in the nature of computer technology and that the key requirement is interoperability. Our focus on .Net interoperability, with existing support for J2EE and CORBA, provides a means for every company to use the best tools and applications for their business.”
CapeConnect 3.5 enables Microsoft SQL databases to be exposed as Web services. The upgrade also features support for Oracle UDDI registries, improved search capability and an upgraded UDDI graphical interface, the company said.
In addition, company officials said CapeConnect 3.5 can be deployed standalone or as a J2EE application in Java application servers such as IBM Corp.s WebSphere or BEA Systems Inc.s WebLogic.
Pricing for CapeConnect 3.5 is $10,000 per server. The platform includes new APIs such as a SOAP parser, an authentication module, serialization, transports, HTTP Basic Authentication Support and XML/XLST Interceptor support.
