Borland Software Corp. made a couple of moves in its executive ranks to integrate its new TogetherSoft acquisition and shore up its Java business unit.
The Scotts Valley, Calif., company Monday night named Tony de la Lama, formerly vice president and general manager of Borlands Java Business Unit, the new vice president and general manager of the companys newly formed Together Business Unit.
Meanwhile, former Sun Microsystems Inc. Java marketing executive George Paolini will join Borland and move into de la Lamas old role as vice president and general manager of the companys Java Business Unit.
TogetherSoft makes software development tools that focus on the design, modeling and analysis phases of creating complex applications, the company said. TogetherSoft competes with Rational Software Corp. on many fronts. Rational is about to be acquired by IBM in a deal worth about $2.1 billion.
Borland said de la Lama will head all research and development of the Together ControlCenter products and will be based in Raleigh, N.C., where TogetherSoft was headquartered.
Company officials said de la Lama has been with Borland since 1990.
Paolini brings eight years of experience in dealing directly with the Java community as former vice president of marketing for Java at Sun. He will make all the key development decisions regarding Borlands JBuilder Java-based integrated development environment and the companys Optimizeit performance management solution.
Borland officials said they welcome Paolinis Java market expertise. Paolini helped launch the JavaOne developer conference for Java developers, and he helped launch foundational Java technologies and initiatives such as the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Sun ONE and the Java Community Process.
