Network security vendor Secure Computing has announced a major leadership shake-up that sees CEO John McNulty (left) leaving the company.
No reasons were provided for McNulty’s sudden departure.
Daniel Ryan, who currently serves as the company’s president and chief operating officer, will move into the CEO office in the interim.
“The board of directors has initiated an outside search for a new chief executive officer, and it views Dan Ryan as a candidate for the permanent role,” said Richard Scott, who replaces McNulty as chairman of the company’s board of directors.
McNulty, who joined the company as COO in 1999, is credited with Secure Computing’s $295 million acquisition of CyberGuard in 2005, a deal that combined two highly rated application-layer firewalls into a family of high-performance gateway firewalls.
He also pulled the trigger on the $273.6 million acquisition of CipherTrust a year later, positioning Secure Computing as a player in the messaging security space.
