IT Should Support Verizon in Privacy Suit

Im going to lobby the legal department of Ziff Davis Media (publisher of eWEEK) to file an amicus curiae brief in Verizons appeal of an order sought by the Recording Industry Association of America, which forces Verizon to reveal the identity of a subscriber who is suspected of downloading copyright-protected content. RIAA is using the […]

LANDesk 6.62 a Top-Notch Tool

LANDesk 6.62 is among the first desktop management systems to be agnostic about operating system image source files, using its own or competitors images to prepare PCs for deployment. This is the first edition of the suite released by LANDesk Software Inc., a recent Intel Corp. spinoff, and eWEEK Labs tests showed Version 6.62 contains […]

Setting a Standard

Standards play a huge role in enterprise applications—as well as the decision companies make to use a product or not—and that role will only get bigger as Web services gain momentum. However, as vendor-led consortia increasingly define the standards that shape enterprise products, its getting tougher to separate standards from vendor politics, posturing and power. […]

Competitors such as Tripwires comparably priced Tripwire for Network Devices can also do this. In addition, Tripwire for Network Devices is OPSEC-compliant, meaning that it works well with Check […]

IT Has a Vital Role to Play in the Assault on Privacy

From 1946 to 1960, the FBI operated 3,000 wiretaps and 800 bugs on the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). Agents spied on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as part of a concerted effort to thwart his organizing efforts in the civil rights movement. The USA PATRIOT (Uniting and Strengthening America by […]

Big-IP Delves Deep Into Data

F5 Networks Inc.s Big-IP 4.5 joins a growing list of products that offer to move security, high availability, and other connection and user decisions away from servers and applications and into special-purpose appliances. As eWeek Labs tests of Big-IP 4.5 show, this approach makes sense. Big-IP let us discard “bad” traffic or send it to […]
