Guidance Software has released a new version of its forensics tool for medical and law-enforcement investigators collecting crime- and accident-site evidence that can be deployed and stored on an Apple iPad, iPhone 4 or iPod Touch.
The company’s EnCase Neutrino software now enables digital investigators to perform their forensic analysis and e-discovery duties on the tablet that analysts have predicted will sell 20 million units or more during the next six months.
According to a November survey of 1,641 business information technology buyers by Vision Critical, corporate use of tablet devices is expected to double in just the next three months.
EnCase Neutrino also supports acquisition on devices running Android 2.1 and 2.2, Guidance said. This includes Android models such as the Motorola Droid series and the HTC Evo.
According to Apple’s most recent earnings release, the Cupertino, Calif.-based computer maker sold a record 7.33 million iPads in the quarter ended Dec. 25, 2010, compared to 4.19 million iPads in the previous quarter. Apple also sold 16.24 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 86 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter.
