Dell is bolstering its enterprise tablet computer lineup with two updated Venue tablets, the Venue 11 Pro 7000 and the Venue 8 Pro 3000. The two devices were unveiled by the company Nov. 5 at its Dell World 2014 show in Austin, Texas.
The new Dell Venue 11 Pro 7000 is 15 percent thinner than previous models and has a fanless design for quieter operation, according to Dell, and also includes extended battery life that will help users get through their work day.
Pricing for the Venue 11 Pro 7000 Series starts at $699.99, and the tablets will be available on Nov. 11 through Dell’s Website in the United States. Both run Microsoft Windows 8.1.
The Venue 11 Pro 7000 can be used on its own, with a detachable mobile keyboard or docked in the desktop docking station with dual monitors as needed. The tablet features a bright 10.8-inch full HD capacitive touch display, MaxxAudio by Waves sound and Intel Core M 2.0 or 2.6 GHz dual-core processors. Also included is 4GB or 8GB of RAM; 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of solid-state storage; and built-in Intel GT2 graphics. Integrated 8MP rear and 2MP front HD Webcams are featured, as well as a micro SD card reader that accepts cards up to 64GB for additional storage. The Venue 11 Pro 3000 comes in black.
For enterprise use, the Venue 11 Pro can be configured with additional security features, including two-factor authentication with integrated smartcard and fingerprint readers. With these and other security features, the Venue 11 Pro has been included on the U.S. Department of Defense Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL), according to Dell.
Its partner, the Venue 8 Pro 3000 tablet, includes a smaller 8.0-inch HD display (1280 x 800), an Intel Trail Bay quad-core Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of on-board storage, a micro SD card slot that accepts cards of up to 32GB and a 1.2MP front camera and 5MP rear camera. Pricing has not yet been announced for the Venue 8 Pro 3000, which is available in either high gloss white or textured black.
Dell introduced the original models of both devices in October 2013, according to a previous eWEEK report. The previous Venue 8 Pro model retailed for $299 at the time.
