Craig Hunts book “Sendmail Cookbook,” published in December by OReilly & Associates, should help harried system administrators using the sendmail application to handle e-mail.
“Sendmail Cookbook” (408 pages, $49.95) is not a primer for sendmail beginners nor a tome for experts. Rather, its a handy self-help manual filled with stand-alone “recipes” covering everything from controlling spam to routing mail to managing queues. The couple of how-tos I tried were written clearly and easy to follow and showed me how to invoke special header processing to add customized checks to sendmail.
This offering joins the very useful third edition of “sendmail,” by Bryan Costales and Eric Allman, in OReillys Nutshell series dealing with sendmail. System administrators should seriously consider these two books, which provide an inside-out knowledge of sendmail.
