Like other tech companies, Toshiba is working on cloud technologies for a broad variety of verticals, including city infrastructure and health.

Toshiba has acquired Landis+Gyr, a company specializing in smart-meter technology, as part of its strategy to develop global services and solutions related to smart homes.

Toshiba executives showed off a 10.1-inch tablet they called the AT700.

Toshiba also offered a glimpse at a home server that doubles as a Blu-ray player and entertainment hub.

The Regza 55X3 features glasses-free 3D (a technology Toshibas been working on for some time) and ultra-high 3840×2160 resolution.

An Intel-powered thin-and-light ultralight laptop: 15.9mm thick, with a 13.3-inch screen.

Toshibas strategy for the cloud includes Toshiba Places, with features online connections to shopping, video, music, books and so on. The company plans on accelerating its development of services over future quarters.

Toshiba claims the Regza AT700 is the thinnest and lightest tablet at 7.7mm and 1.2 pounds.

The Regza AT700s 10.1-inch screen boasts a 1,280×800 resolution.

At CEATEC, Toshiba executives claimed they would like to continue to be involved in the PC business despite the rise of tablets and mobility devices as a focus of manufacturers. The company will also target developing countries as a market.

Toshiba also displayed a smaller tablet, the AT3S0.

The Toshiba AT3S0 bears considerable resemblance to the 7-inch Toshiba Thrive just announced in the United States.

Toshiba clearly has designs on a broad hardware ecosystem.

The AT700 tablet runs Googles Android 3.2 mobile operating system.

Toshiba is jumping into a crowded tablet market, one in which the Apple iPad dominates and other Android tablets have crashed and burned. Can the company succeed where others have failed?
